I recently wrote an article on integrating forums with WordPress, and review some of the choices, related to my own experiences, including phpbb, simplepress and bbpress and others.
I am using phpbb now.
With bbpress, though, it’s important to note it looks almost abandoned. The release schedule is terrible. Many addon developers have abandoned it.

The link to XDForum looks dead.

I just got my bbPress and my WordPress in sync. Now I need to tweek the settings so that it looks and acts like I want.

I wish I could find some people who have already gone through this!

Best article I have seen written on forums on wordpress. Currently I am working with simple forum, and found it a breeze to set up, customize, and tweak. I’ll be saving this article as a reference for other options.

I just downloaded bbpress the other day and I will be incorporating it into a site… So far what I have read (and I spent a ton of time reading each plug-in I wanted to put into this and even the wp integration that it took a few hours.)

I cannot wait to have it up and running. I will get back with a follow-up.

WP-Forum 2 is massively awesome. Both the management and appearance are improved. Frankly, the posting method (visual aspect) looked awkward, for the reply box was always present. As noted on the WP-Forum site, the plugin has been entirely written. It was well worth the effort.

I’m using WP-Forum at my blog. It’s fairly simple, though feature packed. I chose it for its simple integration — install and activate, works seamlessly with WP, plugs in as a page. For its simplicity, it comes with most of the standard features you would expect in a larger script.

I would just like to add, that WP-Forum 2 has just recently been released. I have not taken a look at it yet, so I have no idea if its better, but I thought I’d let you know.
